Quiz night held in memory of Fred and Mary Robinson

You know what it's like even when you have a party, you worry that no one will to turn up, well at least I do (maybe that's just because I'm a Billy-no-mates). I needn't have worried though as 11 teams took part in the quiz. Most of it went smoothly, had a dispute or two over the answers which were easily sorted. But it seems that everyone had a fun evening. Special thanks to Liam Peskett, Jamie Gillen and Charlotte Fogg who worked continuously all night. Teenagers often get bad press but here were three lovely, hard-working ones who each gave up their Saturday night to raise money for charity. I couldn't have done it without you.

Tony Harrison and Alan Carter were in the winning team - Well done to them and their 6 other team members. They won after a difficult tie-break question. Hope you enjoy your prizes. The team that came second did brilliantly too - there were only 3 people in their team!
Well done - Remind me to be in your team next time we go to a quiz.

The Pot of Gold (£127) was won by Paul Law from South Thames College. Paul kindly donated £27 back to the CLT. Thanks Paul.

The main raffle prizes were won by: Mrs Dubis (Mobile phone), J. Sidwell (Wine selection), Mark Sellis (£20 Sainsbury's voucher), Marie Gillen (Bowling vouchers) and Fred Robinson (W.H. Smiths voucher - which was put back into the auction and raised a further £10). Sorry I didn't take down all the winners names for smaller prizes.

Thanks to everyone who donated items and their time to help me. In total the whole event cost only £12 to put on. Everything including the hall, food, bar, raffle, auction and tombola prizes was donated by individuals and companies.

I did well too in the auction - My husband, Mark, bid on and won the Green and Blacks chocolate hamper (Bang goes the diet - Hello chocolate heaven!) and my friend Paula surprised me by bidding on the floatation session and giving it to me at the end of the night. I must say I'm going to really enjoy that. Maybe I could eat the chocolate whilst in the floatation tank hmmmm......

The total raised was £1316, every penny of this will be donated to the Trust as there are no overheads to pay out. Barclay's Bank sponsored the event and matched the first £250, pound for pound. What a great donation. Thank you Paula Callanan for being their representative and thank you Barclay's.

Thanks for giving so generously, I hope you all had fun too. If you did please click on comment at the bottom of this article and write a message.

Book sale at EHWLC - Hammersmith Site

I have just spent another day off working alongside Jenny Parkin, Jean Fitzpatrick and Liz Price to raise money for The Charing Cross Breast Cancer Unit and The Cancer Laryngectomee Trust. Even though it was a quiet day around the college with many students offsite, we still raised another fanastic amount, £196 which we will split between the two charities. Thanks to all staff and students who showed such an interest and bought so many books from us.

Special thanks once again to the site care staff who transported books between sites for us and got the tables and books to the common room in the morning. Thanks also to Martin Giese who allowed us to use the Student Common room for the sale.

Here's how much has been raised for the Cancer Laryngectomee Trust to date

If any other staff would like to organise sales for a charity of their choice next year please contact Wendy or Martin to book a date.
