I am really on a high. I have just spent my day off working alongside Jenny Parkin and her two friends: Liz Price and Chris Holland selling books, for charity, in the foyer of the Hammersmith site. We had a blast and raised a whopping £476.47 which will be split between The Cancer Laryngectomee Trust and The Charing Cross Breast Cancer Unit. We organised a pot of gold raffle which raised £103 and the books that were donated raised £373.47. Jenny's half of the funds means she now has another £1000 give to Charing Cross to support their research.

Maxine Warwick won £103 in the Pot of Gold raffle. She was so pleased as she says she had never won anything before. Well done Maxine, spend it on something nice for yourself. Thanks Lynne for drawing the winning ticket.
What was the best part of the day? Well I was amazed by the interest shown by both students and staff. We had so many of you buy books from us today and the students were asking if we were going to be a regular feature in the foyer.
We hadn't planned on doing more than this one sale, but after today Lynne Pearson has asked us back to do another ... date to be announced.... and many staff offered donations of more books. Thank you so much to all those of you who donated or bought books from us today and to Ola, the site care team, Bora and Darren who moved books between sites (no easy task).... I had a great time today.... I have always known I love selling and missed my true vocation..... hence my choice of profile photo on this page.On a more educational note I liked this quote, about the sale, from Mike James "It takes about 5 hours to read a book and you sold a minimum of 300 books then you have really sold back to our learners at least 1500 hours of self development, specifically improving literacy skills."
The chart below shows the funds raised so far for the Cancer Laryngectomee Trust. I have Vitality Show ticket money to add once it is all in....
If you have any books to donate, or have particular types of books you would like us to try to get for the next sale please leave a comment on this article. The more you communicate with us the better we can make the next one.
