Book sale at Hammersmith Campus

Thanks to everyone who bought from us (Jenny Parkin and Wendy Peskett) yesterday in the Hammersmith Foyer. We organised a pot of gold draw which was won by Louis Wood, who won £40.50. Louis generously donated £20 back to us towards the fundraising and needed a lot of convincing not to give us it all. We raised another £222.00 in total with the sale, pot of gold draw and donations made from staff. Thank you Paula for allowing us to hold the sale and drawing the winning ticket.

Jenny Parkin leaves to college today and I just wanted to say that it has been a pleasure working with her and our partnership in fund raising has been tremendous for all the charities we personally support. I am hoping that Jenny will be able to come back as a visitor to continue with these sales next year as they are so popular with both staff and students. Jenny I wish you all the very best in the future.

Two day Book sale - Hammersmith Site

Another fantastic fundraiser! On Thursday 19th and Friday 20th Jenny Parkin and myself, and three of our very kindhearted friends Chris Holland, Liz Price and Diane Spence ran another book sale in the Hammersmith Site Foyer. Many staff and students visited the stall and loved browsing through the vast array of books we had been donated. We had the most ever this time about 1000 books in total.

There was little sign of a recession as you all spent so enthusiastically and helped us to raise a whopping £535.60. All money will be divided in the following way: £267.80 for the Ealing Hospital Breast Cancer Clinic and the other £267.80 to be split between Macmillan Nurses and the Cancer Laryngectomee Trust.

What I love about these days is not only the vast amounts of money we raise, but the noteworthy discussions that go on about the books on sale; some to a very academic level and some not. Everyone just seems to love books which is wonderful. The one conversation that comes to mind this time is a deputy principal conversing with a teacher saying "oh yes get that one... Angelina Ballerina is a great book"

The Pot of Gold was won this time by Rachel Kirsch who was shocked when I told her she had won. In fact I don't think she believed me at first. Thank you to Satwant who drew the winning ticket. The prize was £63.00.

We would all like to thank you so much for your support in both donating and buying the books. We have already had 5 or 6 of you offer us more books (and some other lovely products - more to come on this later) for the next sale which will be in February or March.

Special thanks to Franco and the site care staff (especially Freddie) who helped to shift the many boxes and to Paula Whittle for her continued support in allowing us to hold the sales.

The total raised at book sales alone since we started in 2008 is £1739.07

If you have any books, DVDs or CDs that you would like to donate please contact one of us and we will happily take them off your hands.

Presenting a Cheque for £2718

easy fundraisers

I have just left a meeting of the Dragon Club at St George's Hospital where I presented Phillipa Moll a cheque for £2718 for the Cancer Laryngectomee Trust. It was a real eye-opener; the meeting was lively, fun and informative and was attended by hospital staff, laryngectomees and their family. It offered loads of practical advice to the laryngectomees and also gave them a chance to share ideas and problems with the group. The Dragon Club is also a registered charity looking for funds and I have offered to be involved and give my support in any fund-raising they do in the future.

Book Sale 22nd April

We raised a further £200 to split between the Cancer Laryngectomee Trust and the Charing Cross Breast Cancer Clinic with the book sale yesterday. Many thanks to all staff and students who donated and purchased items from us.

Liz Price kindly rounded the figure up to the nice sum of £200 and helped with the sales the whole day. We couldn't do these sales without her.

Glynnis Jenkins, Jackie Byrne and Diane Spence used their creativity to make some beautiful handmade cards for us to sell and we raised over £18 with these, they were really popular with staff.

The Pot of Gold was won by Richard Endacott who won with £34. Not as much as usual but we hope he enjoyed spending it.

Thanks also to Lynne Pearson and Paula Whittle who allowed us to hold the sale at the Barons Court Site and also to Ola, Darren and Hafid from Site Care from transporting the books from Ealing.

I think I have covered all the thanks now, it's a bit like writing a speech for the Oscars!
